WHY CLOSER MATTERS

A failing closer is a safety and security problem.

Door closers control how a door shuts: quietly, safely, and completely, every time. When a closer wears out or leaks, doors either slam hard enough to injure people and damage frames, or drift open and leave your building unsecured and losing conditioned air. On fire-rated openings, a closer that won’t latch the door is also a code problem. Getting it serviced early keeps your entrances safe, secure, and compliant.

not sure it's the closer?

We'll pinpoint it first.

A door that won't close right can be the closer, the hinges, the pivot, or the frame. We assess the full door system on-site, find the real cause, and recommend the repair or replacement that actually holds. No guesswork.

KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS

When a Door Closer Needs Attention

A failing closer only gets worse, and it puts strain on the hinges, frame, and door. Here’s what tells you it’s time to call.

01

The Door Slams

A door that shuts hard, bounces, or bangs the frame has a closer that has lost control of the swing.

02

It Won't Close or Latch

A door that drifts, hangs open, or won't reach the strike is a security and, on fire doors, a code problem.

03

Leaking Oil

Oil on the closer body or the floor unit means the seals have failed and the closer needs service.

04

Closes Too Slow or Fast

A closing speed that's off is often an adjustment, but it can also signal internal wear.

05

Loose or Broken Arm

A loose, bent, or disconnected closer arm or bracket stops the closer from doing its job.

06

Hard to Open

A door that suddenly takes real effort to open may have a seized or over-tensioned closer.

It depends on the closer and the wear. Many closers can be adjusted or serviced to restore proper closing. But a leaking, seized, or badly worn closer is usually safer to replace. We assess on-site and tell you honestly which option will actually last.

Surface closers mount on the door or frame and are the most common. Overhead concealed closers hide in the frame for a clean look on glass and aluminum doors. Floor closers are built into the floor for heavy glass and pivot doors. We service and replace all three.

Often, yes. If the closer is otherwise sound, we can adjust the closing and latching speed so the door shuts safely and completely. If the closer is worn or leaking, we'll let you know it needs more than an adjustment.

Usually, yes. Slamming and failure to latch are classic signs of a closer that has lost control or tension. That said, it can also involve the hinges or frame, so we assess the whole system before recommending a fix.
